How to Care for Your Leather Furniture
You’ve just purchased a brand new leather living room set for your home, congrats! Leather is one of the most durable and comfortable materials used on furniture. The style is perfect, the cushions are cozy and the leather is smooth. Believe it or not, you can actually make your leather furniture even better than when it first arrived.
Leather can be broken in to improve its texture, making it softer and more supple overtime. Even brand new leather furniture can feel too stiff for your liking. Without the proper care, it can dry out and become less flexible.
To condition leather, aside from the natural oils on your body, you should regularly lubricate your leather furniture. You can purchase leather lubricating oils and with a microfiber towel, gently rub it onto your furniture using circular motions. Once or twice a week will work.
Another option is using orange essential oil. You would apply it the same way as you would a leather lubricating oil, but one added benefit of orange oil is that its natural. Orange oil can also buff out scratches, polish the surface of the leather and give it a fresh citrusy scent.
Remember to keep your leather furniture out of the sun, even sunlight from your windows when concentrated on the surface of the leather can cause discoloration and stiffness overtime.
Properly caring for your leather furniture will only take a few minutes out of your day but will increase its luxury and comfort for years to come.
