Designer Spotlight: Synthesis Studio

Experimentation. Too often we see the rehashing of traditional design with little or no experimentation, exploration, or attempt to create something new. The duo at Synthesis Studio works hard to innovate, showing that by experimenting you can break the norm and create something beautiful, modern, and totally new. Their two featured products, the oval series and the table manners table use innovation in two completely different ways. The oval series is a set of benches and chairs that use material that is normally not recycled to create a simple and comfortable commercial or residential seat. The table manners table is even more interesting, made from a decommissioned phone booth and incorporating sensors to detect when someone is using a cell phone during dinner, lighting up with a polite reminder that they should hold off answering that text until after they’ve eaten.
