Artist ROTRAUT Creates Vibrant Large-Scale Contemporary “Drip” Style Sculptures
Modern art takes on a whole new level of subconscious expressionism with larger than life sculptures by artist and sculptor Rotraut Klein-Moquay. Known in the art-world as simply “Rotraut,” this German-French visual artist has been creating pieces since the 1950s. Her abstract sculptures resemble “drip” style paintings, or rather extracted movements from them, turned into 3D large-scale artworks. Unlike the drip technique done from paint to canvas, her sculptures are brought into a real world arena making it possible to interact with them.
The sculptures don’t move, they are fixed. However, they take a fragment of abstraction, similar to imagery found in classic well-known works by Janet Sobel and Jackson Pollack, giving them a life of their own. She uses vibrant hues in her sculptures, such as cherry red, seafoam green, and electrifying yellow. Many of them contain a sparkling glittery shimmer making them dazzling to the eyes, especially when sunlight hits them.
Each one is incredibly unique as they are reflecting feelings and behaviors below the surface of the conscious mind. She is currently holding her first ever full sculpture exhibition in an open outdoor arena in Tucson, Arizona. The ROTRAUT sculpture exhibition will be held at SculptureTucson in Sculpture Park starting December 1st until May 31st 2022. It is open to the public and entry is free.
