6 Common Interior Design Living Room Mistakes to Avoid
The living room is one of the first places you see when entering a residence. It’s where we go to relax, watch tv, read, socialize and unwind after a long day. Many people take their living room interior design very seriously. However, they can overlook some important details when putting their space together. Here are the 6 common interior design living room mistakes to avoid when assembling one of the most important rooms in your home.
Not enough practical surfaces
As much as we love minimalism, not having enough physical surfaces to place practical objects makes no sense. One end table dedicated to a vase display or a tabletop sculpture isn’t going to make the cut. Bring in a sideboard, coffee table with shelving or an extra end table to give you a place to set down your mug or tv remote.
Oversized and undersized furniture
That big bulky sofa that can comfortably fit 6 people across from that tiny coffee table? Not working. Take measurements and dimensions before getting click happy when shopping for furniture for your living room.
Too much matching
Furniture sets can be nice but leave them for your bedroom, not for your living room. Too much matchy match with your living room furniture and the interior design is going to look more like a showroom than a comfy, cozy space to relax.
Overstuffed shelves
Shelving can be nice but its not the place to store tons of books, magazines and other knick knacks in your living room. Leave that to your study or office. Storage shelving is NOT for your living room interior design.
Random and out-of-place furniture
If nearly all of your living room furniture has a rustic style steer away from throwing in that random acrylic rocker or velvet daybed. If your living room isn’t a bohemian oasis or an eclectic paradise already, your random piece of furniture is going to be an out-of-place eyesore.
Not enough ambience lighting
Definitely have more than one light source in your living room. Bright overhead lights might be great for morning or mid-afternoon, but if you want to relax in your living room before going to bed, try a tabletop lamp with a shade to diffuse light. It makes the whole room much more comfortable depending on the time of day.
These 6 common mistakes to avoid when designing your living room will ensure it is one of the best spaces to be cool, calm and relaxed in your humble abode.
